Titanium and titanium alloys

The following alloys are the most used in a wide range of applications and are most commonly available from manufacturers and stockists. Click on the alloy for more details. Grade numbers refer to the ASTM specifications.

Alloys additional to those above which are of growing importance are also available, but stocks may be limited and there may be fewer product forms. Full details on these alloys is given in the TIG CD available on application.

Ti-5Al-1Sn-1Zr-1V-0.8Mo (Grade 32) 'Navy' alloy for high strength marine and offshore use
Ti/Pd Grades 26 and 27 Ti + .10% Ru * Replacing Grades 7,11,16,17 at lower cost
Ti-6Al-2Zr-2Sn-2Mo-2Cr-0.25Si (6.22.22) Airframe alloy reintroduced for F22 and JSF projects
Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Mo-2Fe (SP 700) Competitor for Ti-6-4 for SPF and general use

A number of other alloys are also produced often for specific applications. Availability is typically not as good as for the commonly used alloys and manufacturing sources, stocks and product forms may also be limited.

Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V (8-1-1) Early aero alloy now mainly used for spares and replacements
Ti-6Al-6V-2SnTi-662 High strength alloy with specific (earlier) aero applications
Ti-11Sn-5Zr-2.5Al-1Mo-0.2Si (TIMETAL®679) Earlier aero engine alloy rarely specified in new programmes
Ti-6Al-5Zr-0.5Mo-0.25Si (TIMETAL® 685) Aero engine alloy now mainly used for spares and replacements
Ti-6Al-2.7Sn-4Zr-0.4Mo-0.45Si (TIMETAL® 1100) High temperature alloy with some auto engine applications
Ti - 6Al - 1.7Fe - .1Si (TIMETAL® 62S) Low cost 'replacement for 6/4 in automotive and other non aero applications
