ArcelorMittal to refurbish coke oven batteries

ArcelorMittal is to invest over EUR 100M in the refurbishment of the coke oven batteries in Gijón. The project to refurbish and recommission the existing facilities, with an execution time of two years, will ensure compliance with the environmental requirements defined in the current integrated environmental authorisation granted for this facility and will include the implementation of the BAT, defined in BREF that will come into force in 2016.

The main part of the approved investment will focus on the re-construction of two 45-oven batteries at ArcelorMittal Asturias’ coke plant in Gijón, installation of a state-of-the-art emission collection and scrubbing system, and implementation of efficient by-product management systems.... Sondex gains a 600 ton/24h freshwater distiller unit order in the Netherlands. The Sondex SDF unit includes a 3-stage freshwater distiller with specially designed titanium plates for desalination and reduces energy consumption.

Danieli and Alcoa sign letter of intent

Alcoa’s Micromill technology produces an aluminium alloy that is 40% more formable and 30% stronger than automotive aluminium, while meeting stringent automotive surface quality requirements. Compared with parts made from high strength steel, automotive parts made with Micromill material are twice as formable and at least 30% lighter.
