Spain-based Acerinox SA’s stainless steel mill in Africa is facing a strike over pay after two South African labor unions rejected the company’s latest wage offer. Workers at Columbus Stainless Pty Ltd, based in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, are set to go on strike after the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa issued the company with a strike notice, Columbus said in an e-mailed statement on 1 September 2010.

OAO Severstal has announced changes to its senior management team that will come into effect on 1 September 2010. Mr Alexander Grubman, currently CEO of Severstal Resources division, has been appointed as CEO of Severstal Russian Steel.

The Algerian government is encouraging the participation of India-based firms in the USD 10 billion Trans-Saharan pipeline project. Echarif Mohammed Hacene, Algeria's Ambassador to India, indicated that Algeria was looking beyond European countries for new partnerships in the 2627mi pipeline project.

ThyssenKrupp Nirosta has announced that it is to concentrate all its stainless steel service center operations in a single unit in the future. In addition to the Nirosta Service Center (NSC) based in Wilnsdorf (near Siegen), it will include EBOR Edelstahl GmbH (Sachsenheim near Stuttgart) and smb Chromstahl GmbH (Langenhagen near Hannover).
