Duplex World 2010 – Stainless Steels Conference……Latest News……
Preparations for the Conference are continuing apace with the call for papers generating a tremendous 115 responses from around the globe. As a result, an extremely high quality of material will be presented with a good balance between new technical information and industrial applications in several environments.
The conference will be organized around 12 plenary invited papers covering the key technical aspects and worldwide field experiences, 30 key note lectures and 70 complementary presentations.
In addition, workshop sessions will be organized around key issues including material specification, complementary products, material availability, lean duplexes properties and uses.
The Conference will particularly focus on lean duplexes, which are the lowest alloying grades, and which are starting to compete with stainless steel 304 market applications. “That’s important because duplex is moving from a niche market to a volume market and from highly alloyed grades to low alloyed grades,” explained Mr Charles.
Workshops
In addition to presentations, the Duplex Conference will also host workshops covering three main topics:
- lean duplex; an exchange between end users and producers
- learning about duplex; providing newcomers and non-engineers with a solid background of duplex knowledge.
- the development of complimentary products - fittings, flanges, bolts, nuts, etc.
Several presentations will also be given on sophisticated applications for the super duplex family which offer extremely high corrosion resistance.
The Duplex Conference is a unique opportunity for experts and end users to discuss duplex stainless steels in-depth, explains Steering Committee Chairman Mr Jacques Charles. “It will be an interface between researchers and end users, providing an opportunity to have a very open minded exchange focused on this niche market. There will be some highly technical presentations, with companies who are normally competitors coming together to exchange information openly. Attendees will be given the full picture concerning duplex stainless steels, from raw materials through to the stainless family, to duplex properties; metallurgy, corrosion, welding and applications. Speakers involved in the industry for over 30 years will go over the history, discuss recent activities, and give their point of view for the future.”
