Interview Sandvik
After his presentation at the Stainless Steel World 2009 Conference, we asked Mr Pasi
Kangas about Sandvik’s research work into hyper duplex.
Mr Kangas, who is the Coordinator Lean R&D Program at Sandvik Materials Technology
in Sandviken, Sweden describes how the research and development work on hyper
duplex first started in 1995, and was accelerated in 1998.
The aim, he says, was to maintain Sandvik’s leadership in the development of stainless
steels.
He describes hyper duplex as being interesting for various applications, such as where
high strength and high resistance to chloride corrosion are required.
With commercial orders stemming from 2003, Mr Kangas is “very confident in what Sandvik can deliver”.
